“Brogie’s Structure class deepened my understanding of human anatomy for figure drawing in such a practical way, I almost felt as if I was developing X-ray vision. Taking his class was very challenging and rewarding. If you want to develop the ability to draw the figure from memory and imagination in a convincing way, this is the class for you.” – Milene

Course Description

Working from master figure drawings, students will develop a working method for drawing the figure, supplemented by an in-depth structural analysis of the figure. Investigating the structure of the figure alongside their master copy drawings will enable students to understand the relationship between inner and outer forms of the figure and improve their ability to observe and depict the human body. This class is designed for iterative study and students will be encouraged to tackle various exercises catering to their skill level, from simplified geometric masses to elaborate studies of the musculature and design of the figure. Jon will provide individual critiques, and work on demo drawings along with the students to demonstrate key concepts regarding proportion, gesture, structure, and anatomy.

It is highly recommended & preferred that students attend live to gain the benefit of the dialogue with the instructor about their work. Students are encouraged to spend a minimum of 4 hours outside of class developing their drawings for individual critiques.
