Music theatre comes in many forms. At ArtEZ Arnhem, you will learn how music can be the driving force behind theatrical work. This will open up new possibilities in your artistry to create and perform in your own work, including theatre performances, productions, and installations and participation in festivals. You will learn to bring the disciplines of music and theatre together and incorporate other art forms such as dance, literature, fashion and visual arts.

Develop your own repertoire

At the ArtEZ Music Theatre course in Arnhem, you will learn to think of performance as the starting point from which the rest of your artistic work develops. You will develop the skills needed to perform in your own works as an actor, musician and performer-composer. By doing so, you will build up your repertoire and artistic capabilities.

The course focuses on trailblazing, quirky and inquisitive creatives. You are encouraged to ask questions about yourself and the world around you, and explore it from an artist’s perspective. In subjects such as philosophy and history, we pay close attention to society and its developments, in order to understand different experiences and perspectives.

Choose your own direction

During this course, you will take both instrumental and vocal lessons. Music here is approached with a broad brush, with a focus on composition, sound experiments and music technology. You will also take classes in acting, directing and movement, structured around creating and performing. This broad approach allows you to develop into a confident, creative artist who designs their own work and combines various art forms from the start. In the second half of the programme, you will choose a direction that suits your interests and talents.
