Brooke Olivares’ class will focus on creating moving paintings based on the people and the environments they occupy. Learn to observe and document the essence of your subject through a personal point of view. The 3-week course will give a step by step process of thumbnailing, taking and selecting successful photo reference, drawing studies and execution of a final painting. Olivares will be demonstrating in oil, but other media welcome. All skill levels welcome.

Week 1:

• How I begin my paintings through the process of thumbnailing, taking and using photo reference, and drawing studies. Process Demonstration.
• Students will use the various process strategies to select their subjects and work on composing their pieces.

Week 2:

• Give feedback on process work from Week 1
• Demonstration: beginning a painting from your process

Week 3:

• Give feedback on painting progress
• Demonstration: mark making and paint application to add finishing touches
