This workshop will begin plein-air, and end in the studio. Prerecorded footage will show my easel and acrylic paint set-up on location. I will show you what I’m looking for in a composition and how I address my subject. Working boldly, my aim is to capture an impression of what initially attracted me to my subject—usually it is about the light. Working in fast- drying acrylic means I can block in my composition, and alter the color and large shapes freely before addressing the more detailed ones. Later, in the studio I can always find room for improvement; does my painting need more detail? Less? Asking myself these questions and more, and listening to what my painting needs is part of this ongoing dialogue. Locations will include my neighborhood in Brooklyn. Come join me!
