Workshop Summary
In this 4 day workshop, Kate teaches participants to use shape design, simplification, and abstraction when painting from life or from reference to create compelling paintings with gouache paints.
- Day 1. Understanding your subject matter: gouache basics and an overview of value, composition, and color
- Day 2. Learn to design and exaggerate through observation; Take a deep dive into the world of landscape painting
- Day 3. Designing within chaos: painting complicated subject matter and making magic of a mess
- Day 4. Alternative approaches, finding your voice, and final review
There is homework after Day 1, 2 & 3. Kate will critique your homework during the following class.
Upon completing this course, participants will come away with new techniques for shape design, composition, color and a better understanding of gouache as a medium. Participants will have completed a set of in class exercises and at least 10 gouache paintings.
