Daniel Shoykhet: El Primer Viaje: The First Trip

“El Primer Viaje: The First Trip” presented by #Hashtag Gallery is the debut solo exhibition of American artist Daniel Shoykhet (DOT) in Mexico City, inviting viewers on a mesmerizing journey through perception and dimensionality. This exhibition features 12 works that trace DOT’s artistic evolution, from his initial explorations of optical illusions to his recent forays into metaphysical architectural spaces.

Drawing inspiration from Op Art pioneers like Victor Vasarely and Bridget Riley, DOT’s early works reimagine this movement for the digital age. His hypnotic geometric patterns and carefully calculated color combinations create visual fields that challenge viewers’ perceptions, rewiring neural pathways and transforming consciousness.

As the exhibition progresses, DOT’s work evolves into intricate digital architectural compositions that envision the spaces between dimensions. These pieces, influenced by surrealist masters like Salvador Dalí and Frida Kahlo, blur the lines between physical and metaphysical realms. DOT’s meticulous attention to detail and use of sharp digital colors create an uncanny sense of hyperreality, leaving viewers questioning the nature of existence itself.

“El Primer Viaje” invites audiences to take a mind-bending journey through DOT’s artistic landscape, where reality dissolves and new dimensions emerge. This exhibition not only showcases the technical and conceptual growth of an innovative artist but also challenges viewers to reflect on their own perceptions and embark on their own trip towards understanding the malleability of reality.

Daniel Shoykhet (American b.1990)

DOT, aka Daniel Shoykhet, is an LA-based artist who grew up in the vibrant chaos of New York. With a rapid rise in the art scene, his work is already turning heads in galleries and on the streets. Merging the raw power of optical art with the architectural compositions of surrealism, DOT’s signature style pulls you in and doesn’t let go. His obsessive use of geometric patterns and color manipulation creates visual fields that tease and provoke the senses, leading viewers into a new visual dimension.

“I am fascinated by the limit of the processing power of human consciousness. If I can mess with your perception with a few lines of paint, imagine how malleable our reality can be?” DOT comments about his work.

What started as a pursuit to understand the line between physical and metaphysical space, DOT’s instinctive practice brings him to hyper digital compositions that bend the mind. Completely self-taught, DOT exploded onto the scene with his Chicago mural debut, a launchpad that’s led him to gallery shows and murals in cities across the US. His studio in LA is a powerhouse of creativity, where he’s constantly pushing boundaries and reshaping the way we experience art.
