This class provides a solid foundation for the beginning painter or a refresher in basics for the intermediate painter. Through a series of assignments, the group will go over topics to include:
- Oil Painting Supplies, Materials and Methods: This covers the essential tools you’ll need for oil painting, including paints, brushes, mediums, surfaces, and how to use them effectively.
- Limited Palette Color Theory: You’ll explore how to create a variety of colors using a restricted palette. This will help you to understand color mixing and relationships between colors.
- Value Plans: Learn how to use lights, darks, and midtones to create depth and dimension in your paintings. Value plans are like a roadmap for your painting, helping you decide where to place highlights and shadows.
- Color Blocking: This technique involves simplifying shapes and forms in your composition using flat areas of color. It’s a great way to train your eye to see abstract shapes and relationships within your subject matter.
- Paint Application and Manipulation: This covers the different brushstrokes and techniques used in oil painting, such as scumbling, glazing, and impasto. You’ll learn how to control your paint and achieve the effects you desire.
By taking this class, you’ll gain a strong foundation in oil painting and develop the confidence to pursue your artistic journey.
