Lagos is an artist-in-residence program and studio rental space dedicated to the production, exhibition, and development of contemporary art projects. We are a self-managed organization run by artists for artists, promoting the intersection of art professionals with locations in Berlin, Germany; and in Mexico, in the states of Oaxaca and Baja California, as well as in Mexico City.
Lagos supports and sustains artists at crucial moments in their careers by offering workspaces, facilitating collaborations with specialists in various disciplines, and promoting new audiences through a program of curatorial residencies, studio rentals, exhibitions, monthly open studios, educational programs, and community collaborations.
Lagos is open to artists, curators, writers, editors, and cultural agents, offering them the opportunity to become part of the creative landscape of Mexico and Germany, as well as collaborations and projects that broaden the discussion of current issues approached through contemporary art.

In collaboration with artist Irma Sofía Poeter and curator Eduardo Lozano Murillo, lagos expands to Tecate, Baja California, Mexico, offering an Artist-in-Residence program that explores the concept of the border as nature. Situated in a unique location in the border region, this residency invites artists to reflect on the concept of the border as nature and are invited to explore both the geopolitical borders between Mexico and the United States, as well as liminal spaces and the understandings that separate the body from nature.
lagos | Baja California takes place in Irma Sofía Poeter’s project “Arcadia” created around the five elements of matter- Air, Earth, Fire, Water, and Ether- where residents will work in the thematic house and studio of Earth in order to foster creation in a natural and unique environment. Dialogue with the artistic communities of Tecate and Tijuana will also be promoted.
The program offers two modalities: personal (for individual projects) and collaborative (to work alongside the artist Irma Sofía Poeter). Artists will receive close curatorial and logistical support and will have the opportunity to develop projects that will be shared through lagos’ digital platforms. In addition, they will be able to join local and international professional networks through the Lagos I Platform. The residency is open year-round, with both personal and collaborative modalities, and its duration ranges from 1 to 3 months, with monthly costs that include all basic services.
The residency invites reflection on the border as nature, understanding this concept both as the physical and geopolitical boundary between Mexico and the United States, and from a broader perspective—as a “natural” border, such as the boundary between Earth and space, the boundaries between species, or any condition of limit between the ideas of Border and Nature that the applying artists may imagine. The program offers personalized curatorial support and emphasizes situated creation and intercultural dialogue.
