Mijn Toevluchtsoord (‘My Refuge’ in English) is a space where joy, memory, and belonging converge. Raquel van Haver’s textured works—woven from burlap, tar, resin, and oil—combine with her experimentations in drawing to create vivid, layered depictions of life’s communal rhythms. Rooted in her dual connections to Amsterdam and Colombia, van Haver explores cultural intersections through festival scenes, intimate portraits, and mythological allusions. Her bold canvases and dynamic drawings evoke the raw beauty of celebration while highlighting the shared need for connection and refuge. Through this interplay of the personal and universal, Mijn Toevluchtsoord asks us to reconsider our perception of home and community.
