Nigredo Albedo Rubedo
JO-HS Gallery is pleased to present Nigredo → Albedo → Rubedo, a group exhibition bringing together contemporary artists whose practices engage transformation as both a material process and an inner passage.
Drawing from the ancient language of alchemy, the exhibition unfolds as a cyclical journey through darkness, purification, and integration—tracing the evolution of matter alongside the awakening of consciousness. Each phase reflects a necessary moment of change, where breakdown, clarity, and rebirth are not separate states but interconnected stages of becoming.
Part I — Nigredo (The Blackening) marks a descent into dissolution. Forms destabilize, clarity dissolves, and prior structures are undone. This stage confronts the shadow and embraces opacity, ambiguity, and fragmentation as sites of potential.
Part II — Albedo (The Whitening) emerges through restraint and illumination. Here, excess is cleared away to reveal essential gestures and quieter material states. Light, space, and discernment introduce a moment of recalibration, where renewal begins to take shape.
Part III — Rubedo (The Reddening) culminates the cycle in integration. Transformation is no longer sought, but embodied. Opposites converge, vitality returns, and the self is reconstituted with coherence and presence—marking the completion of the alchemical work.
