Sabino Guisu’s latest series—paintings, textiles, sculptures, installations, and large-format ceramics—centers on the theme of Creation and Renewal. At the heart of this body of work lies the axolotl, a remarkable salamander native to Mexico that has captivated scientists with its extraordinary ability to regenerate lost body parts and remain ageless. Yet the axolotl is also a creature of myth, inhabiting the shimmering realms of Mexican legend as a symbol of perpetual renewal.

The artworks in this exhibition are woven together through a series of visual gestures. By incorporating the spiral—one of humanity’s oldest symbols representing growth and transformation—and Zapotec meander designs, which evoke the movement of water, Axolotl Creation takes us on a journey of realization and transformation to birth something new: a seed for a renewed consciousness, planted deep within Mexican identity.

AXOLOT CREATION es la serie más reciente de Sabino Guisu —pinturas, textiles, esculturas, instalaciones y cerámicas de gran formato—, centrada en los temas de Creación y Renovación. En el corazón de la muestra se encuentra esta extraordinaria salamandra, originaria de México, que ha cautivado al mundo con su capacidad para regenerar partes del cuerpo perdidas y permanecer eternamente joven. Sin embargo, el axolote también es una criatura mítica, considerada la encarnación del gemelo de Quetzalcóatl, que desafió a la muerte y habitó las aguas de la mitología mexicana como símbolo de renovación.

Esta exposición se teje a través de gestos visuales como las grecas zapotecas, que evocan el movimiento del agua, y la espiral, uno de los símbolos más antiguos de la humanidad que representa el crecimiento y la transformación para dar a luz una semilla de renovación, plantada en lo más profundo de la identidad mexicana.
