The eighty-first edition of the Whitney Biennial, the longest-running survey of contemporary art in the United States, showcases the work of seventy-one artists and collectives addressing pressing issues of our time. Titled “Even Better Than the Real Thing,” the exhibition explores the impact of Artificial Intelligence on our perception of reality, while also confronting issues of gender, authenticity, and marginalization. The curators aim to amplify the voices of artists challenging historical injustices and create a space for engaging with difficult ideas. The Biennial brings together artists exploring themes such as the fluidity of identity, the relationship between mind and body, and the precariousness of the natural world. Organized by Chrissie Iles, Anne and Joel Ehrenkranz Curator, and Meg Onli, Curator at Large, with additional contributions from Min Sun Jeon, Beatriz Cifuentes, and guest curators for the performance and film programs.
