Capturing the feeling of a place in a landscape painting can be an elusive thing. But it is a quality that we all admire in the best landscape paintings. What exactly drives the emotion in painting a particular scene? Is it the composition? Is it the design? Is it the color? Well, it’s all of the above, working in harmony.

In this three-week course, artist David Sharpe will show you how he orchestrates this harmony as it relates to the land in his work through the tools of design, composition and colour. He’ll cover these topics one at a time over the three weeks. He’ll discuss his favorite masters of feeling, from history and from today, who he feels have captured that elusive sense of place, and discuss each in depth in slides before doing a demo.

You’ll discover real tools and get insights you can apply to your own work right away. And because he’ll critique your homework in Procreate on his iPad, you’ll not only read his comments, you’ll see them right on your screen which doubles your learning!
