Open Call: Ocean Otherwise
OPEN CALL — TRIGGER #7: OCEAN
The ocean is not a backdrop.
It moves bodies, capital, images, and power.
For TRIGGER #7: Ocean, we invite photographers, filmmakers, and visual artists to dive into the ocean as a political, ecological, and imaginative force: From surface currents to underwater worlds, from shipping routes to submerged histories.
Think Helen Czerski’s Blue Machine, Melody Jue’s exploration of coral and oceanic media ecologies, and Malcolm Ferdinand’s decolonial ecology.
Imagine counter-mapping, erased traces, and maritime power — from Sara Caputo’s Tracks on the Ocean to Ant Hampton’s affective approaches to migration.
Think with the water, not just about it, as in the intimate, underwater practices of Nadia Huggins.
We are seeking new or ongoing projects — photographic, cinematic, hybrid, or experimental — that explore (in)visibility, counter-mapping, and oceanic futures across the Atlantic, Pacific, and Indian Oceans and their seas.
Deadline: 23 March
Fee: €400–€660
Publication: TRIGGER #7: Ocean (FOMU)
