MASA is honored and thrilled to present Ana Pellicer’s solo exhibition at our Mexico City gallery, opening on May 15th. This exhibition celebrates Ana’s vibrant, radical, and significant career as an artist.

Ana Pellicer (b. 1946, Mexico City) studied art at the Art Students League and the New School for Social Research in New York. Since the mid-1960s, she has lived in Santa Clara del Cobre, Michoacán. Together with James Metcalf—and drawing on the writings of Adolfo Best Maugard and William Morris—Pellicer co-founded the Adolfo Best Maugard School of Arts and Crafts, blending traditional techniques with contemporary artistic practices.

Throughout her career, Pellicer has cultivated a rich and multifaceted practice as a sculptor, goldsmith, and educator. In 1986, she initiated a project to create life-sized jewelry for the Statue of Liberty, including enormous earrings, to commemorate the statue’s centennial celebrations in New York City and Paris.

In recognition of her contributions, Pellicer received the Gertrudis Bocanegra Medal in 2018—an award honoring women who have made outstanding efforts toward the progress of Michoacán. Early in her time in Santa Clara del Cobre, she actively supported the economic empowerment of local women by encouraging their participation in jewelry-making, fostering both individual and community development.

Pellicer has been deeply involved in reforestation and ecological initiatives. Her work is featured in the sculpture garden of the Museum of Modern Art in Mexico City and is held in numerous institutional collections worldwide.

Opening Reception: Thursday May 15, 5-9pm,
at Joaquín A. Pérez 6, San Miguel Chapultepec, Mexico City, Mexico.

The Exhibition runs until July 26, 2025.

We look forward to seeing you soon!
