The Royal Institute of Oil Painters was founded in 1882, promoting and exhibiting work of the highest standard in oil paint. The ROI provides a centre of excellence and encouragement to all who love this robust medium and is a member of the Federation of British Artists (FBA) based at the Mall Galleries in central London.
Established to preserve and promote the legacy of the Anglo-Hungarian painter Philip de László (1869-1937), the foundation advances education and research in the visual arts—particularly the art of portraiture. It supports exhibitions, publications, restoration projects, and scholarships for emerging artists while maintaining one of the most complete archives of correspondence, sketches, and photographs from an early-20th-century master.
