Course Description

In part two of our Painting Light and Color course, students will put the concepts discussed in part one into their day-to-day studio practice.  Having completed part one, most students will have now had the experience of getting through at least one painting from beginning to end.  Having seen how each step of the process fits together, we can now dive into some simple still life paintings, at our own pace, with greater confidence and understanding.  To begin, it is recommended that students continue to work with relatively simple subjects until a certain level of comfort has been achieved in modeling form in full color.  From there, we can start to branch out and look at what happens when we are presented with different types of surfaces (such as metal, glass, patterned surfaces, etc.).  Increasingly, for students who return for additional sessions, this class will morph quite naturally into a still life painting course as we open up the possibilities for more complexity in our chosen subjects.

Through practice, repetition, and more nuanced refining of these skills, we can take all the concepts and shift them from an intellectual understanding into an integral part of our painting practice.

Note: The class will be conducted on the Zoom platform and is a live online experience. It will be necessary for students to have access to a computer, tablet or smartphone. The recommended device is a laptop or desktop.
