Demo Description

In this demo I’ll discuss how I go about choosing a subject and viewpoint for an interior painting and planning the composition. I’ll talk through the benefits of working from life but in the event of working from photographs what pitfalls to watch out for. I’ll be showing you how to describe the light in an interior scene using value contrasts and colour temperature – whether artificial light inside the room or natural daylight coming in from outside, or a combinaton of both.

Is it possible to be accurate and loose at the same time? Yes absolutely! My drawing and proportions will be accurate while the brushmarks will be lively.

And I’ll be hoping to evoke emotion in the viewer of the painting – feelings of homeliness, warmth and nostalgia that are familiar to us all.
