Initially founded by Johann K\u00f6nig as \u201cJohann K\u00f6nig, Berlin\u201d in 2002, the gallery specializes in showcasing the work of both emerging and established international artists, with a particular emphasis on younger generations. Its program is characterized by interdisciplinary, concept-driven approaches, encompassing a wide array of artistic media, from sculpture and painting to video, installation, printmaking, photography, and performance.<\/p>\n<h6><\/h6>\n<p>In 2015, the former church St. Agnes became the new flagship space, aptly named K\u00d6NIG GALERIE. Located in Berlin-Kreuzberg, the monumental Brutalist building was originally designed by architect Werner D\u00fcttmann between 1964 and 1967. After a respectful renovation by the acclaimed architect Arno Brandlhuber, the project was awarded the Berlin Architecture Prize in 2016.<\/p>\n<p>In April 2021, the gallery branch K\u00d6NIG SEOUL opened in the South Korean capital. From 2017 to 2026, K\u00d6NIG established pop-up spaces in London, Vienna, Tokyo, Monaco, Munich, Berlin-Mitte, and Mexico City.<\/p>\n<p>The gallery has successfully placed works in important private and public collections, including the Museum of Modern Art in New York and the Guggenheim Foundation.
