Originally launched in 1993 as the Rubell Family Collection, the institution was renamed the Rubell Museum to emphasize its public mission and expand access for audiences. Unfolding on a single level, it comprises 36 galleries, a restaurant, a flexible performance space, a bookstore, and a courtyard garden filled with plants native to South Florida.<\/p>\n<p>The Museum maintains an internship program, a partnership with Miami-Dade County Public Schools, an ongoing lecture series, a public research library containing over 40,000 volumes, and an extensive artwork loan program to facilitate exhibitions at museums around the world.<\/p>\n<p>The Rubell Museum\u2019s collection is distinguished by its unprecedented range and depth that has enabled the Museum to organize over 50 exhibitions during the last three decades drawn entirely from its holdings in painting, sculpture, photography, video, and installation. These have included such groundbreaking and diverse exhibitions as\u00a0<em>Red Eye: Los Angeles Artists<\/em>\u00a0(2006),\u00a0<em>30 Americans<\/em>\u00a0(2008),\u00a0<em>Against All Odds: Keith Haring<\/em>\u00a0(2008),\u00a0<em>Beg Borrow and Steal<\/em>\u00a0(2009),\u00a0<em>NO MAN\u2019S LAND<\/em>\u00a0(2015),\u00a0<em>Purvis Young<\/em>\u00a0(2018),\u00a0<em>Yayoi Kusama<\/em>\u00a0(2020), and\u00a0<em>She Said, She Said: Contemporary Artists from the Rubell Museum\u00a0<\/em>(2024).
