At the outset, the gallery building was integrated with its gardens, but nowadays the\u00a0<a title=\"Villa Borghese gardens\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Villa_Borghese_gardens\">Villa Borghese gardens<\/a>\u00a0are considered a separate tourist attraction. The Galleria Borghese houses a substantial part of the\u00a0<a title=\"Borghese Collection\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Borghese_Collection\">Borghese Collection<\/a>\u00a0of\u00a0<a title=\"Painting\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Painting\">paintings<\/a>,\u00a0<a title=\"Sculpture\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Sculpture\">sculpture<\/a>\u00a0and antiquities, begun by\u00a0<a title=\"Scipione Borghese\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Scipione_Borghese\">Cardinal Scipione Borghese<\/a>, the nephew of\u00a0<a title=\"Pope Paul V\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Pope_Paul_V\">Pope Paul V<\/a>\u00a0(reign 1605\u20131621). The building was constructed by the architect\u00a0<a title=\"Flaminio Ponzio\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Flaminio_Ponzio\">Flaminio Ponzio<\/a>, developing sketches by Scipione Borghese himself, who used it as a\u00a0<i><a title=\"Villa\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Villa\">villa suburbana<\/a><\/i>, a country villa at the edge of Rome.<\/p>\n<p>The museum displays one of the most prestigious art collections in the world, with masterpieces by artists such as\u00a0<a class=\"mw-redirect\" title=\"Michelangelo Merisi da Caravaggio\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Michelangelo_Merisi_da_Caravaggio\">Caravaggio<\/a>,\u00a0<a title=\"Gian Lorenzo Bernini\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Gian_Lorenzo_Bernini\">Bernini<\/a>,\u00a0<a title=\"Antonio Canova\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Antonio_Canova\">Canova<\/a>,\u00a0<a title=\"Raphael\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Raphael\">Raphael<\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0<a title=\"Titian\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Titian\">Titian<\/a>. Scipione Borghese was an early patron of Bernini and an avid collector of works by Caravaggio, who is well represented in the collection by his\u00a0<i><a title=\"Boy with a Basket of Fruit\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Boy_with_a_Basket_of_Fruit\">Boy with a Basket of Fruit<\/a><\/i>,\u00a0<i><a title=\"Saint Jerome Writing\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Saint_Jerome_Writing\">St Jerome Writing<\/a><\/i>,\u00a0<i><a title=\"Young Sick Bacchus\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Young_Sick_Bacchus\">Sick Bacchus<\/a><\/i>\u00a0and others. Additional paintings of note include\u00a0<a title=\"Titian\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Titian\">Titian<\/a>&#8216;s\u00a0<i><a title=\"Sacred and Profane Love\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Sacred_and_Profane_Love\">Sacred and Profane Love<\/a><\/i>, Raphael&#8217;s\u00a0<a title=\"The Deposition (Raphael)\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/The_Deposition_(Raphael)\"><i>Entombment of Christ<\/i><\/a>\u00a0and works by\u00a0<a title=\"Peter Paul Rubens\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Peter_Paul_Rubens\">Peter Paul Rubens<\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0<a title=\"Federico Barocci\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Federico_Barocci\">Federico Barocci<\/a>. Considered among the greatest masterpieces of\u00a0<a title=\"Italian art\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Italian_art\">Italian art<\/a>, some of these works show the evolution of art between the\u00a0<a title=\"Renaissance art\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Renaissance_art\">Renaissance<\/a>, the\u00a0<a title=\"Baroque\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Baroque\">Baroque<\/a>\u00a0and the\u00a0<a title=\"\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Neoclassicism\">Neoclassicism<\/a>, artistic movements born in
