It is located in the\u00a0<a title=\"Roppongi Hills Mori Tower\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Roppongi_Hills_Mori_Tower\">Roppongi Hills Mori Tower<\/a>\u00a0in the\u00a0<a title=\"Roppongi Hills\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Roppongi_Hills\">Roppongi Hills<\/a>\u00a0complex, a commercial, cultural, and residential mega-complex in\u00a0<a title=\"Tokyo\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Tokyo\">Tokyo<\/a>,\u00a0<a title=\"Japan\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Japan\">Japan<\/a>. The museum&#8217;s primary focus is large-scale international exhibitions of contemporary art, though it also has a permanent collection of art from Japan and the wider\u00a0<a class=\"mw-redirect\" title=\"Asia Pacific region\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Asia_Pacific_region\">Asia Pacific region<\/a>.<sup id=\"cite_ref-1:_1-0\" class=\"reference\"><\/sup><\/p>\n<p>The museum was founded and developed based on Mori&#8217;s belief that &#8220;culture shapes a city&#8217;s identity,&#8221;<sup id=\"cite_ref-2:_2-0\" class=\"reference\"><\/sup>\u00a0and as a result offers varied programming that works to cater to a wide-ranging and diverse audience, &#8220;from children to older adults, and from locals to international visitors.&#8221;<sup id=\"cite_ref-3:_3-0\" class=\"reference\"><a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Mori_Art_Museum#cite_note-3:-3\"><span class=\"cite-bracket\">[<\/span>3<span class=\"cite-bracket\">]<\/span><\/a><\/sup>\u00a0In 2015, the museum underwent major renovations, and simultaneously revised its mission statement in an effort to reflect the expansion and changing landscape of the &#8216;<a title=\"Global art\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Global_art\">Global art<\/a>&#8216; scene in the previous decade. At the same time, the museum introduced several new program series to supplement the existing rotation of internationally contemporary-themed exhibitions: MAM Collection, MAM Screen, and MAM Research.<sup id=\"cite_ref-2:_2-1\" class=\"reference\"><\/sup><\/p>\n<p>Since opening in 2003, the Mori Art Museum has held exhibitions featuring a number of internationally renowned artists from Japan and beyond, including\u00a0<a title=\"Yayoi Kusama\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Yayoi_Kusama\">Yayoi Kusama<\/a>,\u00a0<a title=\"Ai Weiwei\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Ai_Weiwei\">Ai Weiwei<\/a>,\u00a0<a title=\"Bill Viola\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Bill_Viola\">Bill Viola<\/a>,\u00a0<a title=\"Cao Fei\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Cao_Fei\">Cao Fei<\/a>,\u00a0<a title=\"Anish Kapoor\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Anish_Kapoor\">Anish Kapoor<\/a>, and\u00a0<a title=\"Jeff Koons\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Jeff_Koons\">Jeff Koons<\/a>.<sup id=\"cite_ref-14:_4-0\" class=\"reference\"><a
